Godavari Delta System - A Wave-Dominated Delta System as Interpreted from Seismic Data has Hydrocarbon Potential
Abstract
Modern deltas can be classified mainly into three types: fluvial dominated, wave dominated and tide-dominated delta. Geometry of shoreline and palaeoshore line, dominance of strand-plain environment and other geomorphological and sedimentological features indicate the present Godavari delta to be wave dominated delta system. Seismic reflection patterns are predominantly parallel to subparallel, indicative of delta plain environments. Progradational shingled and oblique (parallel) reflection configuration is observed in different seismic sequences. Stratigraphic hydrocarbon reservoirs can be expected in wave-dominated environment.Downloads
