Abstract

A rich palynoassemblage consisting of 45 genera and 52 species of dispersed spores and pollen has been recovered from subsurface sediments of Mand-Raigarh coalfield, Chhattisgarh State. Five distinct palynoassemblages representing Karharbari, Barakar and (?) Raniganj palynozones have been identified. The lithostratigraphic succession in the two boreholes (RT-11 and RT-12) however, indicates the absence of Karharbari and Raniganj Formations. The palynoassemblages, therefore, indicate a time-regressive as well as time-transgressive nature of sedimentation during Barakar period in Mand-Raigarh area.
